Vulnerable Sector Checks

All START Jr. staff, including tutors, trainers, and administrators, must undergo a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) via the RCMP or local police before interacting with students.

Safety Protocols

• In-Home Tutoring: A parent or designated adult (18+) must be present in the home for the duration of every tutoring session.
• Center-Based: Students must be signed in and out by an authorized guardian.
• Duty to Report: Under the BC Child, Family and Community Service Act, all staff have a legal "Duty to Report" any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the proper authorities.
